Fife Classic Chippy

The Fife Golf Classic's favourite and most recommended Chiipy has been crowned the UK’s best fish and chip shop!!

The Anstruther Fish Bar and Restaurant in Fife impressed the judges - as well as years of previous competitors at the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition with its menu of ethically sourced North Sea haddock, Pittenweem prawns and Shetland organic cod from the world’s first sustainable solution to wild cod fisheries.

Event organiser Ian McCaig explained," Every year when we host the Fife Golf Classic we have one night where we go down to Anstruther and get one of their fish suppers and every year we do so there are always some of the palayers in the queue! We recommed it for a visit every year because there has never been anyone come back saying they were disappointed. Delighted they've won Chippy of the Year and look forward to queuing in September when THe Fife Golf Classic tees off again for 2009."

The likes of Robert de Niro, Tom Hanks and Prince William have braved the rain and queues for The Anstruther Fish Bar but have not yet played in the golf classic!

Ayrshire Homecoming Golf Offer 2009

The organisers of the Ayrshire Homecoming Golf Classic to be held from Sunday 3rd of May have today confirmed an exclusive deal with The Barcelo Marine Hotel in Troon. The hotel has long been a favourite of golfers to Ayrshire and as part of the Homecoming Golf Classic programme it will now act as host to the final Prizegiving Banquet for the Ayrshire event.

In addition the organisers are now able to offer an excellent saving on the published rate for the five night stay in "The Marine".

The package price for five nights bed and breakfast accommodation inclusive of the four rounds of stableford golf over Prestwick, Dundonald, Barassie and Western Gailes is now available for only £689.00 per person (and that's currently well under €700!). The price also includes drinks reception, gift pack, prize fund and the final evening's dinner and Scottish entertainment.

Single occupancy is also available from only £779.00 per golfer. The event is already filling up with the weakness of the pound making it perhaps the best value package in Ayrshire this year.

Tain Golfer Honoured

We picked up an article from The Northern Times about Tain golfer Ian Ross.

For those who have played in The Highland Golf Classic over the years Ian has been a recognisable figure and was indeed instrumental in getting the Highland even off the ground. He has been ably followed by his wife Kathleen who has been the recent contact for all things Classic!
At the Scottish Golf Union's AGM later this month Ian will become the first member of Tain Golf Club to be appointed to the highest role in Scottish golf – President of the Scottish Golf Union, and ahead of him a very busy year attending all of the Union's major events at home and abroad, numerous dinners and functions, but best of all is an invitation to the Augusta Masters in April.
We would like to congratulate Ian on the honour and wish him a great year in office and of course look forward to seeing him at Tain when we return in April.
