The organisers of the Scottish Golf Classics are delighted to be able to confirm the details of the programme for the 2009 Ayrshire Homecoming Golf Classic with the inclusion of some of the finest golf courses in Scotland back on the rota for what could prove to be one of the most attractive club golfer events Ayrshire has ever hosted.
Managing Director Ian McCaig was delighted with the latest piece of news regarding the programme, “With The Open Championship being hosted in Ayrshire this year we always knew Turnberry would be off our itinerary but we’re delighted that we can now confirm that the event will feature golf over Prestwick, Western Gailes, Dundonald Links and Barassie. It really does ensure that we can develop the event from 2009 onwards and provide a positive impact for the local economy at the beginning of the golfing year.”
The event which will take place as part of the Homecoming Scotland 2009 proves the strength in depth of golf product that Ayrshire can boast and emphasises the benefits of golf courses and hotels working together.
We’ve been delighted with the support we’ve had from the accommodation and golf partners and look forward to a really successful event to open a highly important season for golf in Ayrshire.”
Launched in 2000 the Scottish Golf Classics have become a regular return fixture in the calendar of many golfers from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Open to both ladies and gents and with full handicap allowance being given these stableford events are what golf should be about.
“60% socialising, 40% competitive was how one competitor put it.” said Ian McCaig.
The Ayrshire Homecoming Golf Classic is one of five Scottish Golf Classics taking place across Scotland in 2009 being preceded by The Highland and followed during the year by mirror events in Fife, East Lothian and the Moray Firth.
With Homecoming Scotland 2009 being built upon the anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth it is appropriate that the Ayrshire Homecoming Classic will once again feature elements of the bard – the 2008 prize giving dinner held at The Fairfield Hotel in Ayr featured an appearance by Rabbie himself!
The organisers have promised to see if they can tie him down again for the event again in 2009.
